Behaviour Support Practitioner (BSP)

What is Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)?

At Holisticare, our qualified Behaviour Support Practitioners (BSPs) work with NDIS participants across Melbourne, Epping, and the surrounding northern suburbs to develop evidence-based strategies that improve quality of life. Our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) service is designed to understand the reasons behind behaviours of concern and put practical, person-centred supports in place for both the individual and their support network.

Every behaviour support plan begins with a thorough Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA) — identifying triggers, patterns, and unmet needs that underlie specific behaviours. From there, we develop tailored strategies that adjust environments, build meaningful skills, and empower participants and those who support them.

Our Positive Behaviour Support service includes:

  • Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA): A comprehensive assessment to identify the reasons behind behaviours of concern.
  • Behaviour Support Plan Development: Tailored interim and comprehensive plans developed in line with NDIS Commission requirements.
  • Environmental Modifications: Adjusting physical and social environments to reduce triggers and support positive behaviour.
  • Skill Building & Capacity Development: Teaching practical skills that build independence and replace challenging behaviours with positive alternatives.
  • Carer & Support Worker Training: Coaching families, carers, and support workers to implement strategies consistently and confidently.
  • Restrictive Practice Reduction: Working proactively to reduce and eliminate the use of restrictive practices over time.

Our Approach

At Holisticare, our registered Behaviour Support Practitioners bring a compassionate, evidence-based approach to every individual they support. Serving NDIS participants in Epping, Melbourne, and the surrounding northern suburbs of Victoria, we take the time to truly understand each person — their strengths, goals, communication style, and the unique factors that influence their behaviour.

We work collaboratively with participants, families, carers, support coordinators, schools, and other allied health professionals to design behaviour support plans that are practical, respectful, and effective in real-world settings. Our focus is always on building capacity, enhancing independence, and improving quality of life — not just managing behaviour in isolation.

All of our practitioners are registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission and assessed against the Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework, so you can be confident you’re receiving support from qualified, experienced professionals.

Benefits of Positive Behaviour Support

  • Greater Independence: Building new skills and confidence to support greater autonomy and community participation.
  • Empowered Support Networks: Equipping families, carers, and support workers with the practical strategies they need to provide consistent, effective support.
  • NDIS-Compliant Plans: All behaviour support plans are developed in accordance with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission requirements.
  • Reduced Restrictive Practices: A clear, planned pathway to reducing and eliminating restrictive practices over time, in line with NDIS guidelines.
